Research Abstract |
Nowadays, "Machizukuri" or town development focusing on area image strategy is very popular among Japanese cities, and most of them are advocating an emphasis on the local endemism or diversity. However, in the age of global flowability, these values run into logical difficulties. I demonstrated these paradoxes and local attempts against these through the quantitative and qualitative research in Kashiwa, Chiba and qualitative research in Ueno, Tokyo.
