Research Abstract |
To clarify the molecular mechanism of neurotoxicity induced by methylmercury, we investigated extracellular matrices and their degradation enzymes. In this study, we showed that methylmercury-activated matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2 cleaved neurocan, an extracellular proteoglycan. Then, we also indicated the occurrence of a soluble form of neuroglycan C, a transmembrane proteoglycan in rodent brain.
