Outline of Annual Research Achievements

電離圏に現れる強い不安定現象である赤道プラズマバブル(Equatorial Plasma Bubble; EPB)の国際共同研究を実施する。EPB活動度が日々変動する原因の検証を目指して、赤道大気レーダーと観測網SEALIONによる連続観測を継続、衛星-地上ビーコン観測を複数点で実施する。地表から電離圏までの全大気計算モデルGAIA、EPBの生成・成長を正確に模擬する非線形計算モデルを活用した研究を推進する。4つの課題に取り組む。課題1:EPB発生と下層から伝搬する大気波動の関連の解明、課題2:EPBの発生時の時間・空間構造の解明、課題3:長期観測に基づくEPB長期変動の解明、課題4:EPB発生予測の開発と社会貢献。
令和3年度は、新型コロナ感染症の問題から海外渡航が不可能であったためEAR関連の対応は停滞した。一方で既存のデータ解析等による研究は進んだ。課題1に関して、スポラディックE層生成と熱圏風の解析、GAIAモデルからの熱圏風とCO2の関連の解明、エルニーニョ現象と大気潮汐波の関連解明などが行われた。課題2に関連して、既存の観測データ解析から東西方向の大規模波動構造(LSWS)の統計解析、電離圏擾乱と大気の関連の研究、特殊なEPBの発生に関する報告、地上から宇宙への中波電波伝搬の解明等が行われた。課題3に関連して大気風速とEPBの関連の研究、磁気嵐に伴うEPB発生の解析等が行われた。課題4について、既存観測から東南アジア域のEPB発生に関する東西風の影響が示された。さらに新しい観測手法の開発として、衛星測位(GNSS)受信機からの全電子数観測に対して、イオノゾンデを付加した新しいトモグラフィ解析の開発、電離圏を2層構造に単純化して電離圏擾乱の解析精度を高める技術の開発が報告された。観測ロケット実験に使用する2周波ビーコン送信機とアンテナの開発が更に進められた。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

令和3年(2021年)は新型コロナ感染症の問題が継続したため、年度中の観測の展開は不可能であった。このため、予定していた新しい取り組みは停滞した。そのため、令和4年度への繰越しを申し出て認められた。一方で、その他の既存の観測の継続に努めた。手持ちの観測データやシミュレーションによる研究の進捗は著しく、本報告書においても多数の論文発表や学会発表を示すことができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

令和4年度(2022年)には新型コロナ感染症の状況が落ち着き、日本から東南アジア地域への海外渡航も徐々に再開され始めた。これに呼応して、繰越しされていた経費を用いて、令和3年度に行うはずであったEAR補修部品の購入等を進めた。EARの観測停止からの復旧については、令和4年度中に数回にわたって試みて進捗を得たが観測再開までには至っていない。令和5年度(2023年)中には観測を再開させる予定を組んでおり、実施して行く。一方で既存観測の継続とデータ解析等の研究は着実に実施して行く。
