Outline of Annual Research Achievements

太陽系内の始原物質であるコンドライトと地球型惑星の炭素同位体比の違いの起源を調べるため、微惑星分化過程における金属核とマントル間の炭素同位体分別について実験的に調べた。具体的には、円筒形のSiO2ガラスと白金の二重カプセルを用いて圧力3GPa、温度1600-1800℃の条件における金属鉄-ケイ酸塩液相間の炭素同位体分別実験とその回収試料分析を行った。出発試料には炭素源としてNa2CO3を用い、13Cと12Cをそれぞれ等量含めた。金属鉄、ケイ酸塩共に溶融した条件下において60分間の長時間保持を行い、白金カプセルと試料中の金属鉄との反応を避けた実験に成功した。ラマン分光測定ではケイ酸塩中の炭素濃度が低く、分子種の同定ができない試料もあったが、CH結合や元素状Cに由来するピーク(1300cm-1と2900cm-1付近)を確認した。この結果は先行研究とも調和的である。また、二次イオン質量分析によって金属鉄-ケイ酸塩液相間の炭素同位体分別係数(Δ13Cmetal-silicate)について、金属鉄側が13Cに富む+100-+400‰という値が得られた。こうした結果から、微惑星分化過程において、材料物質よりも12Cに富むマントルが形成する可能性が示唆された。
一方で、溶融した金属鉄により13Cが富むという結果は、第一原理計算による135 GPa、5000 Kでの予備的な結果(-0.1‰)やグラファイト―金属鉄間やダイヤモンド―金属鉄間の炭素同位体分別実験[Satish et al., 2011, EPSL]とは異なる結果であった(金属鉄に12Cがより濃集する)。また+100-+400‰という分別係数も質量数の近い窒素で得られた金属鉄-ケイ酸塩液相間の分別係数(-3~-1‰ [Grewal et al., 2022, GCA])と比べると非常に大きい値であるため、本研究で得られた実験結果の解釈には実験手順の妥当性含めて今後検討が必要である。
