Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The publication of Salinger's postumous works, which had been announced by the family of J.D. Salinger, unfortunately did not materialize during the course of this research project. However, by reading his major works such as The Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories, Seymour's Introduction, and other works published only in literary magazines, my research elucidated the influence he received from Zen Buddhism in more detail than ever before. Of particular importance is the discovery that Salinger found in Matsuo Basho's haiku the opportunity to transcend life and death. This perspective will serve as a starting point for future publications of his unpublished works.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
