| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to explore how agreement is reached in cross-cultural settings through analyzing conversations among ELF (English as a lingua franca) speakers striving to accomplish tasks. Previous research has often overlooked behaviors like pointing, gestures and intonation, peripheral to language. However, this study actively integrates these aspects to comprehensively understand interactions through various channels, including language, audio, and visual cues. By tackling such open-ended tasks collaboratively within groups, the study elucidates the strategies used for creative problem-solving and agreement formation.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
多人数を対象とし，かつ異文化を背景とする者同士の英語での基盤形成のプロセスを解明する試みは，これまでの日本の会話分析，談話分析の研究を見ても未開拓の領域であり，現在の話しことば研究の裾野を拡げるという意義がある。また、近年，グローバル化を背景に，共通の母語を持たない者同士が「共通語としての英語」によってコミュニケーションをする機会が増えている。特に、ビジネスや医療などの短時間で合意形成が必要な場面では、英語による意味交渉能力がますます重要となっており、本研究の成果はこうした能力の向上に寄与することが期待できる。
