Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2023, I conducted research on multiculturalism policies and educational programs in Europe, with a focus on integration and equity implications. To conduct this investigation, I visited and conducted research at COMPAS (Centre on Migration, Policy and Society) and Wolfson College, the University of Oxford. During my time at COMPAS and Wolfson College, I also conducted an analysis of the deeply ingrained ethno-cultural identities in Japan and Korea. These identities were characterized by distinct nationalism and cultural traits that influenced attitudes towards immigrants, multiculturalism, and issues related to the integration and inclusion of migrant populations. I also visited Ewha Women's University in South Korea to lay the groundwork for promoting a curriculum for multicultural education utilizing technology. South Korea is very advanced in its use of technology in education, and implementation of technology for learning has occurred at a national level. I built the groundwork for developing a curriculum for multicultural education using technology. This material was piloted in a foreign language class to assess its usability as supplementary material, whether in traditional classroom settings, online environments, or through blended learning approaches. This cultural-general material has been released as the Open Educational Resource, https://usq.pressbooks.pub/interculturalcommunication/.It would be an essential foundation in providing the groundwork for developing cultural resources that align with the findings of the study in the next research.
