Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research focuses on the multi-allocation hub location routing problem (MAHLRP), which arises in many-to-many logistics systems, such as express mail delivery systems. Most of the literature review has been completed in this academic year, and a review paper is in the writing stage. The mathematical formulation of the basic research problem has also been completed and a heuristic version of the proposed solution for the MAHLRP has been developed and presented in a leading conference. The heuristics algorithm is based on a large neighborhood search system, where an initial solution of the problem is improved using many destruction and repair operators, which try to explore the solution space in all three aspects of the MAHLRP, i.e. Hub location, Non-hub nodes assignment, and Vehicle routing. The algorithm works for both single-allocation as well as multi-allocation problems.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Currently, the work is going on an algorithm design for a related sub-problem of this research, where an exact solution approach based on column generation methodology for the current state of the research problem is proposed. This will be used to compare the outcome of the exact solutions algorithm to be designed for the research problem itself. The heuristics solution of the MAHLRP is also being extended based on the reviews and discussions obtained from the related researchers.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Improvements in both heuristics solution of multi-allocation as well as in the exact solution of the single allocation problem is scheduled in the new academic year. Numerical experiments has been designed already, and they are being under analysis. After getting the results of the numerical analysis, academic papers are scheduled to be written and submitted in journals and leading conference. In the later half of the new academic year, extension of the exact solution of the single allocation problem to the multi-allocation research problem will be tried.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to COVID 19 pandemic many research related procurements and travels were delayed or cancelled.
As research has progressed even during the pandemic period. It is now more feasible to invest in some new equipment such as computers, storage devices and so on. Also, it is expected that the academic conferences will return to their normal arrangements, which would require travelling cost for both the PI and the PhD student working on the project.
