Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, the awareness of scenic description in individual poems is analyzed with a view to examining the functions that "scenery" fulfilled in poems by Shinkokin poets and the form in which the "mind" or "heart" existed in these poems. At the same time,I redefined "scenic description" and rewrote Medieval Japanese poetry history from the viewpoint of "scenic description". The result of repeated concrete analysis,I revealed that discrepancy between scenery and mind or heart is starting to occur in Shinkokin period and as a result the scenery and the mind or heart were given expression in a poem while being alienated from each other at the period of the Kyogoku school.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
