Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In academic year 2023-2024 I gathered and read primary and secondary sources on the Philippine mission, and early Philippine presses and prints in order to better understand the connection between the lay confraternities in Japan and the Philippines. I acquired equipment and hired a research assistant to digitize and organize relevant documents. I participated in study groups meetings and conferences on Kirishitan Studies, Hispanic studies and intercultural studies. I organized two research meetings with a visiting scholar from Mexico and online meetings with fellow researchers in Japan and in Europe. I published a chapter on the rivalry between religious orders in Japan in an edited volume and a short research note on a Jesuit Japan Press book.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The main reason for delay is the result of restrictions on unessential travel due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in the first and second years.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Research plan for Year 5: Putting together the analysis and conclusions on the examined sources, presenting the research outcomes in research meetings with colleagues and collaborators, as well as domestic and international conferences, and publishing research outcomes in an article.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Travel expenses were not spent because of the travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic during years 1 and 2, and personal reasons in years 3 and 4. This money will be used in the following year to participate in domestic and international conferences and prepare a publication.
