Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study, which focused on political education and textbook certification from 1931 to 1960, produced results in two main areas. First, regarding textbook certification, I wrote a paper that focused on the pamphlet ``The Worrying Textbook Problem”' and the social studies textbook ``A Bright Society,'' which were the starting point for the postwar textbook problem. Regarding political education, which was another central issue, he conducted research and published papers on the electoral cleanup movement that took place in earnest from 1935 to 1936. This research also developed into the publication of a paper that analyzes the election purification movement in relation to the media. Through these studies, we have clarified the reality of political education and textbook certification from various and multifaceted perspectives.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来、政治史のなかでは教育分野が中心的課題とされない傾向が強く、また、教育史のなかでは、立場が異なる政治的なアクター間の協調と競争という視点は閑却されがちであった。政治史と教育史双方の対話を意識した本研究では、選挙粛正運動の重要性や新しい知見を提示し、教科書検定をめぐる政治過程においては、対立するアクター双方の事情をよく踏まえた、新しい評価と知見を示している。『富山日報』と四ツ橋銀太郎を研究する意義も、広く社会に示すことができた。これらの研究は、今後政治教育問題あるいは政治問題を論ずる上で、参考になる事例を提供しており、学術的な意義という点でも、一定程度の役割を果たすことになるはずである。
