Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2020, a fine-tuned optical properties of oxide nanorods were investigated using cathodoluminescence technique in scanning electron microscopy. By maintaining the submerged photo-synthesis fabrication process, the fine tuning was performed through ZnO nanorods surface patterning by means of laser interference lithography, resulting a periodic 500 nm diameter of ZnO nanorods surface. A clear morphology growth difference was observed when comparing with hydrothermal synthesis for a laser patterned nanorods. A systematic temperature dependence cathodoluminescene emission was measured on the patterned nanorods and bandgap shift according to nanorods size phenomean has been elucidated.
Nanorods morphology change to chloride hydroxide based hexagonal plate was also studied. In particular, together with image simulation, scanning electron microscopy was utilized to get a direct observation of ZnO capping towards the chloride hydroxide species, while inbition of ZnO c-axis preferential growth was also been clarified.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research project has progressed smoothly as planned. A systematic tracking of defects in the ZnO nanorods was achieved through cathodoluminescence spectroscopy, provided by success in periodic surface patterning. On the other hand, direct observation of nanorods growth change behavior, given by scanning electron microscopy also has given a signifant results. Two relevant manuscripts have been prepared and will be ready for submission soon.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2021, an alteration of gaseous growth medium will be established to study its effect towards nanorods growth behavior. Electron energy loss spectroscopy in scanning electron microscope will be utilized to study the lattice defects, as well as its opto-electrical properties. Furthermore, fabrication of ZnO combined with other metals is also considered. Some common or novel opto-electrical properties will be investigated.
