Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Interest on the topic of Japanese investments in Southeast Asia has grown in light of the Japanese government's Green Deal plans and initiatives to phase out coal through early retirement of coal-fired power plants. The research is timely and is well-positioned to advance academic debate in this area of research.
The main activities carried out in AY2023 have focused on publications and dissemination of results. These include seminar presentations, media coverage (Bloomberg), and public events with academic and non-academic institutions. A book chapter was also published with Bristol University Press and several journal articles are under review.
AY 2024 will focus on publications (academic and non-academic) and workshops with co-authors and book contributors to advanced the book manuscript and edited book (to be published with a leading university press). Attendance in three major conferences in the region are also scheduled this year to disseminate the research results.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In the previous year, the core activities are mainly dissemination and publication of research results. A book chapter has been published in January 2024 with Britsol University Press, journal articles are currently on review (with one expected to come out in the summer of 2024), and an edited book is in early stages of development. A co-authored book manuscript is also in progress (a full draft is due mid-2025). The dissemination of research findings was also carried out through participation in academic and non-academic events.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The activities for AY2024 will focus on advancing/finalising the publications (edited book, manuscript, articles) and holding workshops with co-authors and book contributors. Two hybrid workshops will take place in May and June and an international workshop later this year. All are linked to joint publications. Presentations in three major events (academic and non-academic) are also scheduled this year.
