Research Abstract |
We refer to marine organism-derived long carbon chain molecules without repeating motifs as super-carbon-chain molecules. They have extraordinary chemical structures and exhibit strong biological activities. In this study, we endeavored to identify novel super-carbon-chain molecules by a new approach: the large-scale cultivation of symbiotic bacteria or a meta-genomic method. We also studied the biological significance, biological activities, biosynthesis, and unique chemical reactivities of these molecules. As a result, we successfully identified several important molecules and determined their biological activities. Our findings should help to establish the concept of super-carbon-chain molecules.
