Research Abstract

初年度は次のように3回の国内研究会を開催した。
2009年6月28日 京都大学 報告者:柳澤悠、斎藤修。ゲストスピーカー:西村雄志(松山大学)、水野祥子(九州産業大学)。
2009年11月7日 慶応義塾大学(慶応義塾大学経商連携グローバルCOE歴史分析班と共催) 報告者:杉原薫、島西智輝、谷口忠義、西村雄志。慶応から高柳友彦。
2010年2月1日 京都大学 報告者:小堀聡、神田さやこ、石川登。
また、8月の世界経済史会議(ユトレヒト)で柳澤、斎藤、杉原、神田が関連する報告を行った(杉原、神田はパネルを組織)。さらに9月の社会経済史学会全国大会(東洋大学)において神田が組織したパネルで小堀、島西が報告した。このような活発な研究交流を通じて、本研究の基本的な問題意識が共有されたと思われる。
研究については、柳澤、斎藤、杉原、石川、神田、島西が海外で調査、資料収集を行った。杉原はデータの第1次加工の結果を10月に東大の経済史研究会で報告した。12月には京都に招いた、Kenneth Pomeranz、James Warren、Anthony Reidなどから資料、データに関する多くの情報を得ることができた。杉原の研究では(1)世界エネルギー消費の趨勢を検討し、1970年以降のエネルギー効率の上昇が世界化石資源消費の約1/3を節約したこと、(2)西村との共同研究において第一次大戦までの英領インドにおける木材交易を検討し、第一次産品輸出経済の進展がインドの森林伐採を促したことが、主なファインディングズである。他の研究分担者の個別研究においても顕著な進展がみられた。
