Research Abstract |
One of Type IV secretion systems (T4SS), which is derived from an IncP type plasmid, was applied as a novel gene introduction method into eukaryotic cells. We found that mitochondrial respiratory mutants in S. cerevisiae showed enhanced transformation efficiency. By using inhibitors of mitochondrial function, we successfully established a simple and efficient gene introduction method into S. cerevisiae from E. coli. In addition, we firstly observed direct gene transfer from E.coli to higher plant cells by applying this T4SS.
