Research Abstract |
This is a comprehensive research on the birth and development of the copperplate painting(that is, the painting painted by oil on a copperplate), based on existent works of art and archive materials. It explores that the copperplate painting was born in the cultural contexts of'paragone' as well as of'the collection of northern European artworks in Italy', developed as a novel medium which realized political allegories connoting the eternity, and established oneself as the best vehicle for miniaturists of various genres to obtain the fame at the end of 16th century.
