Research Abstract |
Water temperature is an important environmental factor for lives inhabiting in lakes and reservoirs, but has not fully been monitored except for major lakes. Thus, a satellite-based lake and reservoir temperature database in Japan (SatLARTD-J) was develped using time-series thermal infrared imagery of ASTER onboard NASA's Terra satellite. It includes water temperatures derived from ASTER data (interval: about three times per year, accuracy: about 1 K) and those regressively estimated with ground air-temperatures (interval: 5 days, accuracy: about 2 K) for 934 water bodies in the period of 2000 to 2008.
