Research Abstract |
What I had to do first was to search for printed and hand-written material regarding Adolfo Sarcoli, because no substantial information about his activities in Japan was available. Consequently, I came across 250 more ephemeral materials, on the topic of Sarcoli. This accumulation made it possible for me to find that songs he taught to sing specifically included those by such contemporary composers such as Puccini. On the other hand, I collected material in Italy as well, and discovered his birth certificate and a handful of newspaper articles which enabled me to take a look at some of his activities prior to his coming to Japan, while, in some newspaper articles and personal letters, a certain number of personal names related to Sarcoli are found.I haven’t yet encountered material concerning his performances and the reviews of them in such large cities as Rome, and am planning to do further research in the near future.
