Research Abstract |
The increased cases of human food-borne campylobacteriosis have been reported worldwide, of which more than 50% could be attributed to contaminated chicken meat and broiler flocks as a reservoir . Campylobacter jejuni start to be detected from 3-week old broilers, and the prevalence reaches 100% at 7-8-week old. We attempted to elucidate how chickens can be free of C. jejuni before 3 weeks of age. From the results, the factors associated with the phenomena could not be explained, and rather, the status of the bacteria at lower concentration and gene expression in the environment may affect the bacterial colonization.
