Research Abstract |
The aims of this study were to clear the mechanisms and to find out the early prognostic markers of delayed encephalopathy from carbon monoxide poisoning. The delayed encephalopathy may occur with one third of severe poisoned patients, and the symptoms are variable neuropsychological phenomena. It has been no reliable prognostic markers of delayed encephalopathy. In my study of 39 poisoned patients, I showed that the early elevation of interleukin-6 concentration in cerebrospinal fluid was the best prognostic marker of delayed encephalopathy, and also the early elevation of S100B protein concentration in cerebrospinal fluid was a good prognostic marker of persistent vegetative state.
