Research Abstract |
We came to the conclusion that the experience of mothers who can't accept gender identity disorder in their children is relevant to critical situations in which they rejected the presence of their children, and needed time for recollection necessary to rediscover and accept the children as their own. The factors implicated in the mothers experience are 1) future and social uncertainty concerning their children, fellow beings and family, 2) guilt feelings as mothers, 3) sense of loss of gender of their children, and 4) absence of people around for understanding and support. We obtained, based on the study mentioned above, effective support through which mothers can accept their children having gender identity disorder as follows 1) Prepare living environment at the earliest stage by making a precise assessment of people who can give mental support to mothers. 2) Provide mothers with gradual support so that they can consciously remember the process of being deprived of their children's gender and consequently can rebuild selves and motherly roles. 3) Help husbands and fellow beings improve family. 4) Make adjustments to the support systems by involving specialists and encouragingsociety. 5) Encourage mothers to realize the significance of their children as giving them vitality, and help children find paths for their future. These research findings will activate health promotion, and give new needs and additional challenges to the field of maternal nursing and obstetrics which assume the roles of not only an advance of physical health but also an advance of gender health.
