Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Novel classes of multidimensional chiral solitons were theoretically studied in chiral magnets and liquid crystals. Among the found solitons are: 1) torons and bobbers in thin layers of liquid crystals; 2) target-skyrmions and springs in bulk chiral magnets; 3) non-axisymmetric vertical and horizontal skyrmions within the conical states of chiral magnets; 4) two-dimensional merons of easy-axis and easy-plane varieties; 5) three-dimensional knotted hopfions in bulk helimagnets. A systematic study of the stability and ordering of low-temperature skyrmion and spiral states was undertaken in a bulk helimagnet Cu2OSeO3 through the use of versatile indirect techniques such as neutron scattering, magnetization and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements.
