Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study involves creating a database of the pieces performed during the semestrial exams in the secondary piano classes ("preparatory classes" and "keyboard study"classes) at the Conservatoire de musique de Paris and making it publicly available. The period covered is from 1842,when records of the pieces performed during the piano department's semestrial exams first began to be recorded, to 1889. In this investigation, a total of 5,608 student names were entered, including those whose performance pieces were unknown. Of these, 2,752 pieces have been identified by composer, and 2,639 pieces have been classified by genre (including "others"). The data has been made available on the PTNA Research Institute of Music's website:https://enc-paris-conservatory-exam.piano.or.jp/en.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

19世紀のピアノ教育においてどのような作品が重視されていたのか、それらがどのように変遷したのかを知ることは、現代のピアノ演奏のレパートリーを歴史的観点から客観的に見つめ直す機会を与えてくれます。私たちが自明のものとして受容しているレパートリーは、単に作品の自律的な価値の帰結なのでしょうか、それとも教育制度、美学、コンクール等の社会的慣習の帰結なのでしょうか。近代的なピアノ教育の先駆的教育機関であるパリ音楽院で、標準的（古典的）なレパートリーを確立・継承・拡散する体制がどのように形成されてきたのか。本研究の意義は、その一側面を演奏曲目という観点から解明するための情報整理を行った点にあります。
