Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To explore students' academic literacy development, I focused on students' genre knowledge as they engage in genre-based tasks in class. I finished the whole data collection (in the first and the second semester). I organized the first half of the data and analyzed it to address the first research question (see below), adopting a general inductive approach inspired by grounded theory. I finished the analysis and began to write the first paper to submit to a peer review journal. I reformulated four research questions, for each of which I will write an article to submit for publication. The first research question that I am addressing in the paper I currently write regards how students perceive text-context relationships in academic essay writing and how they drew on those understandings as they wrote.

Data collection went timely, however analysis is taking much more time than I expected.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I have divided the process of the anlysis into four stages according to the four research questions I formulated. At each stage, I will write an article to report the findings. In 2023, I will finish writing the first paper and submit it to a referreed journal by the end of the first half of the year. In the second half of the year, I will finish the analysis of the data at the second stage and start writing the second paper.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the tight schedue with analyzing the data of the first semester, writing an article and collecting data of the second semester at the same time, most of the audio-data collected in the second semester has not been sent to the transcribing company yet. I will place the order sometime in the first half of 2023.
