Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Article 1: Data collection continued during FY2022, mostly through student research assistants. Apart from some additional details on the Swedish market, I believe the mapping of relevant hamburger markets is complete. This forms a large dataset of unique data that I hope to be able to use for more than one article. In terms of research output, this article was presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), 9-11 July 2022, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I have also discussed with potential co-authors and found one who can contribute to the paper through state-of-the-art quantitative methods. This marks a significant change for this paper, which was originally planned to rely on qualitative data only. Article 2: I was considering to change the topic of this paper to entomophagy, and finally decided to do so. To collect data and review some previous research on the topic, I have hired research assistants who have conducted some comparisons between regions, confirming the indications that Japan stands out in public interest in entomophagy. Close to the end of FY2022, I invited two co-authors to the paper that will help with the conceptual framing, empirical analysis and theoretical contributions. As with FY2021, access to the Factiva news article database helped greatly in getting an overview of public interest in the topics at hand.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Because of the changes of Article 1 to quantitative methodology, we want to present it at a new conference (EAMSA) before submitting it to an academic journal. Therefore, the plan for submission of Article 1 has been postponed when compared to the original plan. As for Article 2, things are going according to the plan despite the change in empirical focus from organic food certification to entomophagy.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Article 1: I aim to submit an advanced version of this paper in July to the upcoming Annual Conference of the Euro-Asia Management Studies Association (EAMSA), to be held Oct 28-30, 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden. After taking in feedback from the conference participants and editing the manuscript accordingly, I plan on submitting the manuscript to an academic journal. Article 2: With the use of more than ten research assistants, I am about to commence a round of pilot interviews with restaurants offering insects on the menu. We hope to cover the majority of such restaurants in Japan by late summer. This article is likely to be a conceptual piece offering vignettes from the interview findings. After finishing this article, my co-authors and I aim to coduct additional data collection on the topic, although future article would be written and submitted after the conclusion of this three-year project.
