Research Abstract

本研究では「新型有機半導体分子の設計・合成」と「分子組織体のナノレベル構造制御法」を開発し,有機薄膜太陽電池に代表される高効率有機デバイスに結実させることを目的とする.以下に本年度研究成果の概要を示す.(1)電子受容体としてのフラーレン誘導体の合成:58π電子フラーレン化合物へのメタノ基付加による56π電子フラーレンや1,4-アリル基移動を介した1,2-置換58π電子フラーレン誘導体などの新規フラーレン誘導体の合成法を開発し,有機薄膜太陽電池の電子受容体ライブラリーを拡充することに成功した.(2)低環境負荷型π共役分子合成法の開発:第一周期遷移金属触媒反応として鉄,コバルト,銅触媒系を開発し,安価な芳香族スルホン酸塩化物を原料とした1H-インデン誘導体の合成や,ベンズアミド類のC-H結合活性化を介したアルキル化など新型有機半導体分子の合成法を確立した.(3)有機・無機界面における分子の階層的組織制御:有機物に接した無機物表面の仕事関数はキャリア注入の主要制御因子である.ITOと金表面を単分子膜で修飾することで,表面吸着分子の双極子モーメントが表面の仕事関数への影響を決定づける因子であるとした,約100年前のHelmholtzの式を初めて分子レベルで実証した.この知見を新しいバッファー材料の開発にも応用した.(4)単結晶化による高移動度の達成:デバイス設計に欠かせない高移動度有機半導体の設計指針を得るために,様々なベンゾジフラン類の誘導体を合成した.その結果基本骨格をベンゼンからナフタレンに拡張することでπ電子系の重なりが大きくなり,そのFET特性を測定したところ,3.6 cm2/Vsという極めて高い正孔移動度を記録した.

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

本研究の研究指針は「発想を新反応に求めて機能分子を探索する」ことであった.しかし,現在の進捗状況は明らかにこの段階を超えている.例えば,種々の新規有機半導体の開発を進める中で,実デバイスおよびその部分構造のモデル多層系を用いて分子構造と分子集合体の構造,デバイスの物理的効率の関係を研究するという発想に至った.その結果,1世紀以上前に提案された物質の仕事関数に与える表面被覆に関するHelmholtzの式を初めて分子レベルで解明することに成功し,表面修飾の新たな設計指標を得ることができた.このように,分子の組織化を有機太陽電池の学理を化学,物理学,工学など幅広い観点から研究するステージに突入している.また,高効率有機太陽電池の実現という目標に関しては,ERATOプロジェクトで開発した太陽電池の三菱化学への技術移転を行い,デバイスの光学設計など様々な工学手法を駆使して実験室レベルでのデバイス効率向上を施した.その結果,平成23年には当時の世界最高データ10%を達成し,平成24年にはさらに世界記録を更新,11%を記録しており,当研究での数値目標は既に達成されている.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究の当初目標である(1)半導体性を示す新型の平面共役分子やフラーレン誘導体の設計・合成,(2)分子組織体のナノレベル構造制御法を開発し,(3)高効率有機薄膜太陽電池実現に結実させる,については,既に相当程度達成している.今後は,電子顕微鏡を用いた分子集合体構造研究手法の開発,タンデムデバイスなどの新型デバイスへ向けた研究,分子集合体の光及び電子物性の解明,という新しい目標を設定して臨む.具体的には,タンデム素子に最適化した近赤外光吸収ドナー分子の検討,印刷塗布可能な高溶解性低分子ドナーの開発,高寿命化を視野に入れたフラーレン誘導体の熱安定性向上に向けた設計と劣化機構の解明,更なる低環境負荷有機半導体合成法の開発など,太陽電池の学理の研究に注力する.
