Outline of Annual Research Achievements

カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)内部をナノリアクターとして用いた本研究で新たに新規ピーポットを創製した。さらに、これらのピーポッドの高温熱処理で新規のナノワイヤ状物質をCNT内部に合成することに成功した。これらの物質は、有機合成的手法、CVD法、レーザー蒸発法などの通常の合成法では実現が極めて困難であるが、ナノチューブナノリアクターを用いることで、短時間で容易に合成できることが明らかとなった。
特に平成26年度は、コロネンをCNT内部に密に内包させた後、700℃程度で高温アニーリングを行うと非常に長く、2nm以下の極小幅をもつグラフェンナノリボン(GNR)が高効率で合成できることを発見した。これは、世界最小の幅を持つGNRである。さらに、このCNTの表面を有機修飾することでCNT自体を絶縁化することにも成功した。これによって、CNT内部に新たに合成した極細GNRそのものの電子物性を抽出することにも、世界に先駆けて成功した。この結果はACS Nano誌に発表され、英国物理学会のウエブサイトでも注目の研究として写真入りで大きく取り上げられた。
さらに、同様の手法を基に1次元直鎖状ダイアマンテン(diamantane)ポリマーを内包したCNTを創製することに成功した。臭素化ダイアマンテンを出発物質とすると、CNTの表面でダイアマンテン・バイラジカルが生成して、これがCNTに内包される。するとその直後に、CNT内部で1次元直鎖状のダイアマンテン・ポリマーが非常に高い効率で生成することを発見した。これは、バルクでの反応では起こりえない、まさにCNTの内部空間中での極めて特異な化学反応である。
