Research Abstract

単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWNT)アーキテクチャに基づくエネルギーデバイスの作成及び性能最適化の実現に向けて,アルコール触媒CVD法を用いてSWNTを任意の方向にパターニング合成する技術の確立を目指した.
まず,これまでのSWNTを基板に対して垂直方向に成長させる技術に加えて,水平方向に配向成長させる技術の開発を行った.結晶石英のR面と呼ばれる表面上にSWNTを合成することによって,その表面原子構造を反映してSWNTの配向性が著しく向上することを明らかにした.さらに,圧力の最適化によって,SWNTの高密度化が可能であることを示した.同時に,局所的な合成を可能にするべく,触媒粒子のパターニング技術の開発にも力を入れた.自己組織化単分子(SAM)膜のパターニングとディップコート法を組み合わせることにより,基板の濡れ性に依存した触媒担持を実現した.予めSAM膜を形成して疎水性にした基板に局所的に紫外線や電子ビーム照射を施して濡れ性を回復させることにより,照射部位のみに触媒を担持し選択的にSWNTを合成することに成功した.
これらの技術に基づき,基板に対して任意の方向にSWNTを合成することが可能となった.そのデモンストレーションとして,全ての構成要素がSWNTからなる(all-SWNTの)高性能FETが比較的容易に作製できることを示した.さらに,シリコン基板上に形成したデバイスをプラスチック薄膜に転写することで,フレキシブルで透明性の高いall-SWNT FETの作製にも成功した.
以上を基に,SWNT膜を対極材料として利用した色素増感型太陽電池を作製した.対極材料としてSWNT膜が応用可能であることを示し,等価回路解析によりセルの特性評価を行った.SWNT膜と電極基板との接合法をいくつか提案し,擬似太陽光照射下でセルの光電変換効率を向上させることに成功した.
