Research Abstract

単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWNT)の合成技術およびその応用技術の開発を進めた.合成についてはCVD合成時における原料ガス分子として窒素原子を含むアセトニトリルに注目した.炭素・水素および酸素原子から構成されるエタノールと比較し,合成されるナノチューブの直径が著しく細くなることが分かった.これは窒素原子がSWNT成長の核である触媒金属へ影響を与え,成長モードが変化することに由来すると考えられる.同時に窒素分子がSWNT内部に閉じ込められる(内包される)という現象を見いだした.これは新たなSWNTの物性制御方法としても非常に重要な結果と言える.
水平配向成長については,走査型のラマン散乱分光装置を用いることでその物性を詳細に分析することに成功した.ラマンスペクトルを元に,その配向性や構造(直径やカイラリティ)と成長(成長速度など)との関係を分析した.色素増感太陽電池の対極への応用については,インピーダンス計測による分析を進めた.SWNTと電解液との界面における電荷輸送に太陽電池性能の低下をもたらす要因がある可能性を示唆する結果を得ることができた.今後は,このSWNT-電解液界面に注目しさらに解析を進める.
さらに,SWNTの新たな太陽電池への応用例としてシリコン基板とナノチューブを接合したヘテロ接合型太陽電池の開発を試みた.比較的高い変換効率を示す太陽電池を得ることに成功し,シリコン-SWNT界面や,SWNT膜自身の電気抵抗(シート抵抗)の低減を目指していく.時間領域サーモリフレクタンス法による界面熱抵抗の評価を行った.ここでは,SWNTと金属の界面を模擬し,高配向熱分解黒鉛(Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite, HOPG)のc面に金属薄膜を蒸着し,金属-HOPG界面における界面熱抵抗を測定した.

Reason

単層カーボンナノチューブの合成技術,およびデバイス作製に必要な技術の開発は順調に進められている.また,当初の予定にはなかった新たなタイプのSWNT太陽電池へも展開され,きわめてすぐれた太陽電池性能が得られつつある.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

これまでに得られたSWNT合成技術(直径・物性・配向性制御など)を踏まえ,エネルギーデバイスへの応用を進めていく.特にSWNT-シリコンのヘテロ接合型太陽電池のメカニズム解明・性能向上を目指すと同時に,そこで得られた知見を元にSWNT成長技術へのフィードバックを行い,さらなるSWNTデバイスの開発を推進していく.現状において,研究計画の変更や遂行上の問題はないと考える.
