Research Abstract

霊長類の色覚に関しては次の成果を得た。1) L/Mオプシン遺伝子のアレル多型による色覚多様性が顕著な新世界ザル類の中で、クモザル亜科が独自にアレルの消長・獲得を経験し、他の脊椎動物に見られないアミノ酸変異によりアレルの波長感受性の分化を達成したこと、それにより採食果実と背景葉の弁別が向上していることを明らかにした。2)分化したL/Mオプシンの遺伝子重複を新世界ザル類で唯一経験し、均質な3色型色覚を獲得したと考えられてきたホエザル属に対し、2種の野生群調査を行い両種ともL-Mハイブリッド遺伝子の獲得により独自の色覚多型を生じていることを明らかにした。3)多型色覚を示す典型的新世界ザルのオマキザル野生群におけるL/Mオプシンアレル波長感受特性と採食果実の分光特性から、3色型色覚が2色型色覚より遠距離からより多くの果実種を検出でき、それが食資源競合性の高い小木においても顕著であることを示した。4)オマキザル野生群の26年におよぶ観察データから、出生率と生存率において3色型色覚が2色型色覚に優っていないことを示した。これらの成果は霊長類の色覚進化の理解に大きく貢献する。味覚に関しては次の成果を得た。色覚と食性の大きく異なる新世界ザル類の間で苦味受容体TAS2R1とTAS2R4のリガンドに対する反応強度と感度をヘテロ培養細胞系カルシウムアッセイで調べた。TAS2R1の樟脳に対する感度は夜行性のヨザルが最も高かった。一方TAS2R4のコルヒチンに対する感度は恒常的3色型色覚ホエザルが他よりも有意に低いが、反応強度は多型色覚のマーモセットが他より有意に高かった。これらから、新世界ザル種間で苦味感覚に違いがあることが示唆された。しかし、色覚や食性との関連を含め、他の受容体も含めたさらなる研究が求められる。これらの他、色覚のモデル生物であるゼブラフィッシュから網膜発生の基盤的な知見を得た。
