Research Abstract	In general, it is believed that geographical indications can play a role as quality signals and enable consumers to proper choices because they can provide consumers with information about source of goods. However in the EU, this role seems at turns to be not achieved enough as the system of geographical indications leaves room for considerable discretion for owners of geographical indications.
