Research Abstract |
Firstly, effects of the emotional valence of materials on directed forgetting were investigated using the list method. It suggested that people can intentionally forget pictorial information when the forget cue is provided. In second, the mechanisms of benefit effect or cost effect (inhibition process) in directed forgetting were investigated using pictorial information arousing strong emotion. Theoretical implications for encoding and retrieval processes of directed forgetting were discussed.
