Outline of Final Research Achievements

Our project aims to control cell behavior by applying electric fields and currents. DX technology has been introduced because cell behavior and life phenomena are complex systems. We have developed a new electrical stimulation cell that does not adversely affect the cellular growth environment. Our electrical stimulation cells have used carbon plate electrodes attached to a copper-wired circuit on a printed circuit board. Still, there were problems with (1) contamination of the culture medium by copper ions and (2) mold growth due to the pore structure of the carbon electrodes. The shape change was studied in depth from the imaging of cell shape change under electrical stimulation, and the spatial spread between cells was successfully captured at the same time as the shape change caused by the electrical stimulation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
