Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The progress of the project is slightly delayed due to the extra time that was required for the approval by the UTokyo Etihcs committee, and extra responsibilities at researcher's work due to the change of the program's affiliation and related unexpected increased in the working load.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

The current research project will be proceeding as following:
(1) Survey data collection will continue till the end of June 2023
(2) Mid-June 2023 the recruitment of the interviewees will start and in July 2023 the interviews will start to be recorded.
(3) Currently, the collected data are being analyzed, and based on the preliminary results, the semi-structure interview questions will be prepared. The preliminary results of the survey will be presented at PanSIG conference on May, 14th, and the extended data analysis will be presented in November at 32nd Internation Symposium on English Teaching and Book Fair.

Causes of Carryover

Due to the ethics procedure limitations, it was decided to avoid data analysis by hiring the additional personnel as they might not have the data security training compliant with UTokyo regulatoins. Therefore, the data analysis will be conducted by the project leader to avoid any leakage of personal data of the participants and ensure ethical treatment of their data. This led to the extra funds that were originally designated for hiring research assistants.
