Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The goal of this project is to create a capillary device capable of conducting subcellular lipid profiling. We have developed a refined capillary device model that enables the mass spectrometry detection of standard lipid samples in an analyte-to-answer fashion. In brief, the capillary's inner wall is coated with a hydrophobic material for lipid extraction, while the outer wall is coated with a conductive material for electrospray ionization. Additionally, the device includes capillary holders designed to interface with a mass spectrometry instrument. Although this project still requires further studies to optimize performance, our results have revealed new opportunities and challenges related to trace sample detection.
