Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Coxiella-like endosymbionts (CLEs) are obligate mutualists that was suggested to supplement B vitamins and other metabolites. Molecular mechanisms between CLEs and ticks remain poorly understood. Thus, we performed a transcriptomic analysis of CLE genes expressed in the ovaries and Malpighian tubules of Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks after feeding compared to unfed ones. We constructed the genome of H. longicornis, including symbiotic bacteria, and assembled CLE genes from both organs, based on RNA-seq results. Our data revealed upregulation of genes involved in vitamin B biosynthesis and Gene Ontology terms associated with biotin and ubiquinone biosynthesis. These findings provide a fundamental basis for identifying potential targets in the development of anti-tick control strategies.
