Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research has been progressing smoothly. We hired a research assistant and have undertaken the following: 1.Conducted 16 interviews with food charity directors. 2.Completed 9 sessions of participant observation at food support distribution events. These activities have given us a good initial understanding of the food provision field. 3. Have developed a network of contacts in the food provision field in Kyoto. 4.Developed a comprehensive database of active food support providers in Japan 5.Had a paper accepted for presentation at the Janpora conference in Kyoto 6.Received invitations to present preliminary results at various universities (Catholic University of Milan, University of Toronto, Maastricht University, University of Manchester - UoM)

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research plan has been advancing smoothly. We are nearing the completion of data collection in Kyoto and will soon interview directors and stakeholders from the most relevant organizations providing food support across Japan. Afterward, we will conduct a formal analysis of the interviews to identify common patterns and differences between the charitable food provision systems in Japan and the UK. We have already initiated outreach activities, having presented our preliminary findings at two online seminars hosted by the Sustainable Consumption Institute (UoM) and the Catholic University of Milan.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the coming months, the research will proceed as follows: 1.Continuing outreach activities with in-person presentations at the Janpora conference, University of Toronto, and Maastricht University 2.Conducting further semi-structured interviews with food charity directors and stakeholders in Kyoto and Tokyo 3.Analyzing interview transcripts 4.Organizing an outreach event at Kyoto Prefectural University, involving Kyoto-based practitioners and scholars from the University of Melbourne and University of Toronto
