Research Abstract

H23年度は、南京大（当時）Zheng教授の協力を得て、揚子江全流域の堆積物、懸濁物、水試料収集調査を計4回、延べ8週間余り行ない、黄河下流部の試料を含む計90個の堆積物試料、計57個の懸濁物試料、計65個の水試料を採取した。堆積物試料は、粒度分画の後ESR、鉱物分析を行い、流域毎に砕屑物の特徴づけを完了した。水試料も同位体分析を行い、流域ごとの特徴把握が完了している。懸濁物試料については回収量が少なかったため、分析法を検討中である。水の微量元素分析は、中国側と共同研究を進行中である。揚子江デルタ掘削については地点選定を終え、H24年秋に掘削を行う予定だったが、日中関係悪化に伴い、H25年6月に延期された。
H23年には、これらの試料の分析のためにESR測定装置および粒度分析器の立ち上げを行ない、測定を開始した。掘削試料年代測定の為のOSL測定装置導入と試料準備の為の実験室整備については、その担当を予定していた杉崎彩子(PD)の着任が遅れたため、着任直後のH24年10月から詳細な検討に入った。しかし、①装置導入が早くてもH25年3月以降になる事、②導入後の装置の立ち上げに1年以上かかる為、測定開始が大幅に遅れる事、③東大で前処理まで完了した試料を杉崎がデンマークのOSL製造会社(Riso)に持って行き、そこで測定を行った方がすぐに測定を開始でき、能率も良く、コストも2－3割安くなる事、からOSL測定装置の購入を中止し、試料前処理の為の実験室整備のみを行ない、デンマークで測定する事とした。そして、H25年1月から試料前処理を開始し、3月には杉崎がデンマークに出張してOSL分析を行った。
H23年夏に2回の沖縄トラフの調査航海が行われたが、両航海ともに悪天候に見舞われ、希望したコアは1か所でしか採取できなかったため、H24年秋に再度調査航海を行ない、希望したコアの採取を完了した。

Reason

H23年度の研究計画の達成度は、80％程度と評価される。当該年度の実施計画における主要課題である揚子江本流および全支流域における河川堆積物、懸濁物質、河川水、および黄河下流域および黄河河口から揚子江河口の間の海岸沿いの堆積物採取は、予定を100％達成した。また、掘削地点の決定のための既存掘削コア試料の検討も行って、掘削地点を決定した。採取した河川堆積物試料については、その8割について粒度分画を行い、ESR分析、鉱物分析を終えた。また、幾つかの試料について、粒度分析も行った。懸濁粒子については、回収量が少なかったため、分析法を検討している。河川水の酸素、水素同位体比については測定を完了している。更に、主要な水文点について、淡水流量、懸濁堆積物流量のデータを取得している。河川水の微量元素濃度については、南京大学と共同研究を行っている。
分析装置の購入、セットアップについては、ESR測定装置、粒度分析装置については、セットアップを完了し、分析を開始している。OSL分析については、能率およびコストパフォーマンスの観点から装置の購入を止め、試料前処理までを東大で行い、分析はデンマークのRiso社で行う方式に切り替えた。前処理の為の実験室の整備は終わり、デンマークにおける予察分析もH25年3月に順調に行われた。
黒潮強度変動復元のための東シナ海のコアの採取は、H24年秋までに、予定していた2本のコアの採取を完了した。採取されたコアの14C分析による年代測定と年代モデル構築については、幾つかの試料について14C年代測定がうまくゆかず、2本のコアの内1本については年代モデルが出来ていない。今後早急に14C年代測定をやり直す予定である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

H23年度当初の計画との主な変更点は、①OSL年代測定のエキスパートである杉崎彩子(PD)の着任が本人の都合で1年以上遅れた事、②それに伴って、OSL測定装置を東大に導入して立ち上げ、測定を行うよりも、試料の前処理までを東大で行った後、杉崎がデンマークのRiso社まで出向いてそこで分析した方が、実際にルーチンワークとして測定を開始するまでの期間が1年近く短縮でき、かつ能率もコストパフォーマンスも良いという事になり、OSL測定装置の購入を中止し、デンマークに出張して測定する方式に変更した事、の2点である。杉崎がデンマークに出張して測定をする方式に変更したことにより、杉崎の着任の遅れに起因するOSL年代測定作業の遅延は回避された。今後3年間の杉崎の出張費の捻出が問題であるが、今の所、予算の繰り越し等により何とかしのいでいる。
上記の変更点は、基盤Sの主要な研究計画や目的にはほとんど影響しない。研究計画全体としては、おおむね順調に進んでいると言って良いだろう。ただし、採取試料が当初予定より多くなったため、一部の作業に遅れが生じている。今後は、実験補助者の雇用などにより、遅れを取り戻してゆきたい。また、調査データや分析データが蓄積されるにつれ、それらのデータベース化と、研究分担者や共同研究者間でのそれらの相互利用の促進が重要な課題となりつつある。そうした機能を有したホームページの構築が研究の推進に必要だと感じている。
