Outline of Final Research Achievements

The aim of the present study is to investigate the bipolarization of motor ability (MA) in preschoolers from the following viewpoints: i) aberrations from normal distribution, ii) the relationship between kurtosis and the characteristics of performance, iii) changes affecting the MA histogram, and iv) bias affecting MA. The participants were 1,411 preschoolers and data measuring MA was derived from multivariate analysis methods. The results show that, i) physique and muscle strength showed normal distribution, however locomotion was inclined toward good and manipulation and stability were inclined toward poor. ii) MA bipolarization was not revealed in kurtosis, but performance in girls aged 6 years showed a slight dent in distribution. iii) The MA histogram normalized with aging. iv) Bias affecting MA appeared in some of the children (14.1%) and two patterns relating to bias in MA were observed as good running and rhythm with poor jumping and manipulation, and vice versa.
