| Research Abstract |
本研究は、英語の非母語話者による国際学会での科学論文発表形態について、もっとも理解度の高まる発表形態はどのようなものか決定するための、調査を行うことを目的としている。アジア圏出身の技術者は、聴衆から目をそらす、スライドに記載された言葉を一言一句たがえずに読み上げる等、一般に好ましいとされている発表形態とは異なる特徴を示していることに気付いたためである。予備研究では、アジアで開催されたコンピュータ工学国際学会での発表スタイルを、２つの観点（発表者の聴衆に対する体の角度、スライドに記載された英文を一言一句違わず読み上げた比率）から分析したが、平成23年度は以下の学会に参加し、発表者のビデオ撮影、録音、発表スライドやパワーポイントデータの収集を行い、より詳細な発表スタイルの分析を行った。録画については、発表者を発表開始前より、１分、３分、５分の時点で撮影し、Google Scale Toolを使って、発表者の徴収に対する体の向きを測定した。カメラは発表者の正面に来るよう、聴衆の中央に設置し、発表者の肩の角度を聴衆に対する上半身の角度とみなし、３回の測定値の平均値を０度から90どの間で測定した。1. | Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Data from an additional European conference will be obtained; the orientation of all presenters will be determined by raters using a template photographic series; the audio recordings of presenters will be compared with the presentation slides using Voice Walker to determine the ratio of ad-lib speech to that written on slides. Separate models of European-style and Asian-style conference presentation will be made from the results. In the final year, presentations in these styles will be made before test subjects to determine comprehension and comfort levels.

Travel funds: for recording presentation at conference in Europe and for a conference in America to meet other communication researchers; Payment to student assistants: for rating of orientation of presenters to audience using photographic data; Office supplies: counters, paper, pens, folders etc. to support daily research.
