Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research will examine EU Regulations on international families and analyze the problems that might occur when those Regulations are applied to the citizens of non-EU states including Japanese people.
EU Regulations are applied not only to the citizens of EU Member States but also to the non-EU State people. However, those Regulations are so-called “inward-facing regulations” primarily giving priority to the EU citizens, and might sometimes cause problems when applied to the non-EU people. This research will focus on the issues of cross-border divorce, maintenance and matrimonial property, and analyze what problem would specifically occur.
