Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study extends business system studies by focusing on the partner’s revenue models within multiple inter-firm relationships. We examine how firms select their collaboration forms (exploration with new partners / exploitation with prior partners) under higher market uncertainty and what collaboration form is best suited for firm performance. Conducting a qualitative and quantitative study on the Japanese music industry, we find differences in selection patterns of collaboration forms responding to higher market uncertainty, depending on the value capture timespan of collaboration partners. Additionally, Our study indicates that explorative collaboration in a relationship between record label and music agency is more suitable when value novelty is pursued. In contrast, exploitative collaboration in a relationship between record label and music publisher is more fitted to increase value creation efficiency.
