Research Abstract |
The general public receives Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) from Japan Meteorological Agency through various means such as TV, radio and cell-phone at the same time as a warning is released. However, some problems have been seen on the other hand. The purposes of this research are to clarify evaluations from the general public and their awareness on EEW and to investigate its optimization based on the findings revealed. As a result of the study, the degree of awareness and contact tended to be higher in the east Japan than in the west part of the country. It was mainly for this reason that The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred and the number of subsequent quakes increased. In addition, sometimes inappropriate EEWs were delivered. However, the study showed that these incorrect warnings, even if they were delivered repeatedly, did not significantly affect people's minds toward EEW's effectiveness and necessity.
