Research Abstract |
Among rheumatoid arthritis patients, fatty patients show relatively low inflammation. So we thought that leptin derived from fat tissue might reduce the inflammation. At first ob/ob mouse, which has no leptin in the body, did not show any kind of arthritis induced by anti-collagen antibody. Next we created acquired leptin resistance mice by high fat diet. They got higher leptin concentration and showed lower grade of arthritis induced by anti-collagen antibody. At last, we could not induce arthritis in leptin transgenic mice, which showed hyperleptinemia. Finally we found that leptin decreased the production of IL-6, pro-inflammatory cytokine. Hyperleptinemia reduces inflammation.
