Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Green tourism has developed in recent years as a subsidiary to the agriculture & rural sector industries, with leading initiatives frequently appearing in mainstream media such as newspapers. In particular, it was expected that primarily women would be in charge of the operation of farming guesthouses. However, the results of the survey revealed several issues in the operation of farming guesthouses, including (1) the excessive demands and burdens on the emotional labor of women, (2) the labor required in the operation of guesthouses tending to be an uncompensated extension of housework, and (3) lack of profit due to low price setting in order to compete with the hotel industry. While an operation that opens for school trips is easy to continue due to its seasonal nature, an operation open throughout the year to the general public is difficult.
