Research Abstract |
This research compared England and Japan about the support system for maintenance and inheritance of agricultural heritages through both market and non-market mechanisms. I invested the UK agri-environmental payment scheme, called the Environmental Stewardship. There are payment options for capital work within the public funded scheme. I classified the details of the capital work and its selection procedure as well as the public participation mechanism such as volunteering work of NGOs. More specifically, as a case study of the UK, I invested how the maintenance inheritance of agricultural heritages, such as footpath and stone wall is incorporated into the agri-environmental scheme. Also, in Japan, we investigated a possibility of mobilizing grass-roots advocacy and the use of market mechanism for conserving agricultural heritages in a case study of three waterwheels ofAsakura, Fukuoka Prefecture Asakura.
