Research Abstract |
In this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted on the families of critically ill patients admitted to an ICU which allows 24-hour visitation and interview content analyzed qualitatively and descriptively with the purpose of structuring the needs of families of critically ill patients admitted to an ICU where there is no limit to the time and number of visits. The following categories were extracted as a result: “I want to be close to the patient”, “I want to meet the patient when I feel like it”, “I do not want to have any regrets”, “the ICU provides a comfortable place”, “the ICU guarantees that it’s OK for me to be there”, “I can decide on my own whether to be close to the patient” and “I can decide on my own when to leave”, etc.
