Outline of Final Research Achievements

Over the past several decades, many groundbreaking technologies have emerged and evolved in advanced industrialized countries. How have such technological innovation and progress affected the productivity and employment of individual firms? Furthermore, what impact have they had on goods and labor markets across countries and industries? This study conducts two types of analysis to address these questions. First, it quantitatively evaluates the effects of advances in information, communication, and computing technologies on the skill wage gap, the gender wage gap, and labor shares of income. Second, it quantitatively evaluates the effects of technological innovation on productivity and employment at the firm, industrial, and national levels.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

技術の革新と進歩は経済成長の原動力として期待されている一方で、雇用の喪失を招くおそれがあるという懸念もある。しかしながら、どのような新しい技術が企業の投入と生産の選択をどのように変え、産業ごとにどのような変化をもたらし、そしてその結果として、一国経済の生産力、雇用、および賃金にどれほどの影響を及ぼすか、十分に解明されていないことがあった。本研究では、技術革新に関する企業別パネルデータと技術進歩に関する国別産業別パネルデータを構築して、先進諸国における技術の革新と進歩が、各国各産業各企業の生産力、雇用、および賃金にどのような影響を及ぼしているか検証した。
