Research Abstract

2013年度の研究課題として挙げた次の4点については、計画通りの成果を達成した。1.京都国際地理学会議にて日本の都市化の状況を報告し、世界の都市地理学者と意見交換し、脱成長社会の都市化の特質について理解を深める。2. 中心市街地の活性化に関してシンポジウムを開催し、まちづくりの観点から実情を把握し、対応策を検討する。3. 都心に立地するオフィスの立地動向についてシンポジウムを開催して、オフィス集積の変化と今後の動向についての共通理解を得る。4．2012年度に実施した大都市圏の居住動向に関する研究報告を取りまとめ、出版の作業を進める。1に関しては、13人のメンバーが口頭発表するとともに、ネットワーク型の大都市圏としての京阪神圏の巡検を実施し、海外の研究者と日本の都市化の状況について意見交換した。2では、韓国から鄭還泳教授を招へいし、韓国の中心商業地の動向との比較を含めて意見交換した。3の成果は、『地理科学』、第69巻、第3号に掲載される予定である。4については、2014年5月には編集作業に入る。
以上の点に加えて、2013年度は、都心部の再開発に関係して問題とされるジェントリフィケーションの現象を取り上げて国際比較を含めたシンポジウムを企画・実施した。なお、市町村合併の影響に関する共同研究については、具体的な成果を挙げられなかったが、次年度にシンポジウムを開催する方向で準備を整えた。20世紀の都市研究の展望の作業も、担当グループの方で進めている。そのほか、京都国際地理学会議の都市セッションでの日本人研究者の発表を英文の本として刊行するために、編集を進めた。こちらは現在出版助成申請中である。

Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

研究計画に掲げた課題をおおむね順調に達成し、シンポジウムの成果なども学会誌を通じて公表してきた。例えば、日本地理学会E-journalにシンポジウム記事をすでに3本掲載し、我々の活動を広く学会員に伝達している。また、ホームページを開設して、発表資料なども公表してきている（http://www.jug.es.tohoku.ac.jp/）。また、科研のメンバーはそれぞれに研究論文を数多く発表している。確かに研究計画に挙げた社会的貢献の部分はまだ十分に達成されていないうらみがあるが、この点については2014年日本地理学会秋季大会で「平成の大合併」が都市の自治に与えた影響について、外部の実務者などを交えてシンポジウムを開催し、我々の研究成果の社会還元を図ることにしている。
そのほか、国際交流についても、計画通り、毎年海外から都市地理学者を招へいし、意見交換をしている。昨年は京都国際地理学会議があったが、都市セッションでの参加者数・発表数が最も多かった。その概要は、雑誌『地理』第59巻、第4号に紹介されている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

科研申請時に説明した研究の枠組みに沿って、今後も研究を推進し、研究課題に応える成果を挙げることを引き続き目指す。さらに、研究成果を出版することまで申請書には盛り込んでいなかったが、今後を成果の公表と本の出版を積極的に進め、成果の社会的還元に努める。
また、若手研究者の参加を促し、現代的課題とともに、日本の都市地理学が蓄積してきた成果を継承できるように配慮する。国際交流は、これまでも重視してきたが、今後も継続し、科研のメンバーのみならず日本の都市地理学者が海外の研究者と交流できる機会を提供する。
